THEME: “balanced and grounded

As Autumn begins, let’s settle and ground ourselves into the season. During this shifting season, we can find balance through grounding and connecting to ourselves and the earth, and using some techniques to distract and learn new skills at the same time!

Enjoy bringing this theme into your classrooms this month and as always, take what you need and leave what doesn’t serve you!

“RELAXING IN THE GRASS”

Time: 12 minutes

When to practice: WHEN YOU NEED TO TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND RELAX

"Imagine walking through a beautiful garden or meadow, hearing sounds of birds, trees, and the breeze… Seeing beautiful colours, a sunrise or sunset…It feels warm here. You find some lush green grass, perhaps in a lovely little tucked away corner, or maybe by a lake… It is surrounded by beautiful smelling flowers… Imagine resting in it….”

These poses and movements serve to support a sense of grounding and being connected to the earth below. The poses can also be used to help distract and re-focus attention when needed throughout the day.

Breathing exercise: “take 5 breath

Let’s remember the healing powers of slowing our breath this month with our “Take 5 Breath.” We can use our hands with this breath to help us count and learn, while also developing hand-eye coordination.

Sit nice and tall, hold your hand out like a “High Five,” breathe in for a count of 5 and out for a count of 5 as you touch each finger, breathing into your nose and out of your mouth.  Continue on your other hand too and do as many times as needed!
