THEME: “keeping cool

During this time of the year when heat and humidity are high, we can feel sluggish, our sleep can be disrupted because it’s too hot, it can be easy to get dehydrated, and we can feel especially hot-headed throughout the day. This program serves to cool the body and mind, with special techniques to help guide you through.  We hope the program brings calm, comfort and healing during these times.

“KEEPING COOL AND CALM MEDITATION”

Time: 12 minutes

When to practice: WHEN YOU NEED TO UNWIND AND INVITE CALM INTO THE MOMENT

"Imagine you are walking along a path, the sun is setting before you, the trees and slowly swaying in the breeze, and you feel a lovely cool temperature of the air on your skin. You see a calm lake before you, which looks so still, and peaceful, and inviting…Notice the ground beneath you, and any sounds that surround you. You feel calm and relaxed here. Now begin to practice your Sitali Breath, aka the cooling breath..."

Grab a blanket and get cosy. You can do this anytime yourself, with your students, or with your family members too. Simply click on the audio link and settle in.

We are here for you, for them.

RESTORATIVE YOGA POSES

Forward folding can have a great calming effect on the body and mind. They have an inherent ability to calm the nervous system and cool the body’s core temperature. Alongside this, they can reduce fatigue and anxiety while stretching and strengthening the legs and hips.

Breathing exercise: “SITALI COOLING BREATH

This simple but effective breathing technique serves to cool the body and mind. Sit tall, and soften the shoulders. Round the tongue (like a taco) or your mouth (like duck lips!) and breathe in through the mouth. Then close the mouth and breathe out of the nose. This inhalation is moistened by the tongue so therefore cooler. Repeat for 1-2 minutes until you feel cooler and calmer.
